Melissa Moore was Interim Director for the South Carolina Equality Coalition (SCEC). Born & raised in Charleston, SC, she has worked to build a unified south and advancing human rights for her fellow South Carolinians. She attended the College of Charleston (the oldest College in the nation), where she earned a B.S. in Sociology & an appetite for activism. Her career began while working as an Executive Assistant for Alliance For Full Acceptance (AFFA) in Charleston. It was during that time that she was offered a part-time Volunteer Coordinator position with SCEC. She recognized SCEC’s enormous potential and thus continued her quest for social justice. She has, since, become Communications Director for a creative project soon to be announced. She is a bona fide bleeding-heart progressive & a card-carrying member of Wellstone Action, Carolina Alliance for Fair Employment (CAFÉ), AFFA, NAACP, SC Progressive Network, Charleston County Democratic Women… Her mission in life is to show the people of South Carolina how brilliant and wonderful they are and to spotlight the best and brightest among them. She promises to inject great fun into the work.

Kudos for Ken Hubbard!

I just saw this story in The Advocate (http://election2008.advocate.com/2008/01/speaking-your-t.html). I had the pleasure of working with Ken during our ballot campaign last year, and I have the utmost respect for him. He was more than a Board Member, he was one of a handful of people who volunteered his time and energy every time […]

Below you’ll find an article written by former AME Minster, Dr.
Bennie Colclough. Dr. Colclough has been at the forefront of the civil
rights movement in SC for most of his life, and he continues the fight
for LGBT equality today. Over the past three years, Dr. Colclough has sacrificed friendships, a high position in the church, and […]

Injustice in the Home of the Cocks

For better or worse, I am a South Carolina girl. I love G.R.I.T.S. (Girls Raised In The South), and I’ve been told by more than one good-ole-boy that I have the “right hips for breeding.” I live in a state where the laws favor chickens or a piece of cloth over people. Here, cock-fighting or […]

From the Trenches…

Check out the vitriol we encounter in SC every day. Kind of makes Charleston look like Disney Land. I’ll let the images speak for themselves. If you’re moved by what you see, please give money HERE:

SC Pride 2007

Don’t let the subject line fool you, as I’m sure you, the reader, were expecting a blog about this year’s Pride Celebration (for those of you who don’t keep abreast of the latest in SC gay culture, Pride will unleash herself upon Finlay Park on September 22). While I’m sure I’ll address official “SC Pride […]
