It’s difficult for opponents of gay marriage to stay on topic without wandering off to some harshly perverted place. It’s no different for a conservative presidential candidate. Here’s Mike Huckabee’s interview with belief.net where he lumps us gays with pedophiles, and bestiality.
BELIEF.NET: Is it your goal to bring the Constitution into strict conformity with the Bible? Some people would consider that a kind of dangerous undertaking, particularly given the variety of biblical interpretations.
HUCKABEE: Well, I don’t think that’s a radical view to say we’re going to affirm marriage. I think the radical view is to say that we’re going to change the definition of marriage so that it can mean two men, two women, a man and three women, a man and a child, a man and animal. Again, once we change the definition, the door is open to change it again. I think the radical position is to make a change in what’s been historic.

I believe this is the same interview in which he equated gay sex with bestiality, and abortion with slavery. If the Republicans nominate this moron, I hope Democratic and independent voters don’t sit on their hands in November. I believe there’s a bigger agenda with regard to outspoken anti-gay candidates like Huckabee, as well as initiatives like South Carolina’s Amendment 1, than simply defining marriage. There’s a big portion of the electorate who want to reinforce the closet so that we’re all uncomfortable living our lives in the open.
Huckabee equates “gay or lesbian” as the sex act between two men or two women. The terms “define” the same sex attraction not the sexual acts. For him to throw pedophila and bestiality into the same sex marriage debate shows just how small minded, mean spirited and uneducated he is.
